Boulder is known for its generous sunshine - we have about 300 days of sun each year - but also for its gorgeous winter. That said, it is undeniable that Boulder winter can be brutal to the more warm-loving creatures among us.
Please make sure to pack your warm clothes to prepare for extreme weather conditions. The temperature is around 46ºF during the day (on average in history) and can be under 0ºF at night in January. Layering is highly recommended, as it is more effective against the cold and also flexible for the big variation of temperature within one day, and between indoors and outdoors.
Waterproof, anti-slipping boots are helpful for walking in the snow and on ice. It is important not only to have warm clothes but also to prepare other coverages such as gloves, scarf, and hat.
Wear comfortable shoes, as you will be walking quite a bit during these three days.
Mountain weather changes quickly - even if it is warm in the morning, make sure to bring extra layers for later in the day!
Altitude - Boulder is at a higher altitude than many cities in the U.S. at 5430 ft above sea level. This means that you might be tired more quickly than usual, and easily dehydrated. Pace yourself, drink a lot of fluid, and make sure to always bring water (+ moisturizer, lotion, lip balm) - seriously, water bottle is a survival item here.
